Zebilla District Hospital was thrown into a state of shock when it was discovered that a newborn baby had disappeared from the maternity ward under peculiar circumstances.
In an exclusive interview with Starr News affiliate ‘Zebs FM,’ Madam Zangina Grace, a midwife on duty, recounted the incident. She explained that the baby’s mother had given birth via Cesarean Section on May 25, 2024.
According to Madam Zangina, on Saturday evening, the mother of the baby befriended a stranger who pretended to be a relative of another patient. The mother entrusted her baby to this individual while she went to take a bath.
Unbeknownst to her, the imposter had a male accomplice.
“When she returned, the man and the lady were not to be found. They left with the baby. So it has been very sad.”
Dr. Ayobi Abdul-Rahaman, the medical superintendent at the hospital, has confirmed the incident and stated that the police were promptly notified.
He mentioned that potential leads aiding the investigation of the kidnappers have been identified and passed on to the authorities, expressing hope for their swift apprehension.
Dr. Ayobi expressed concern over the apparent disregard for the hospital’s visitation policies and security measures by visitors.
He announced that the hospital management would convene soon to assess the situation and develop strategies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Felicia Paul Dery, the distraught mother, made a heartfelt plea to the public for assistance in locating her missing baby.
