The Women Caucus of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency has chided the National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, over his recent allegation against the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Lydia Alhassan.
John Dumelo during a segment on TV3’s “Community Watch,” implied that Alhassan may have been involved in her husband’s death to gain political power.
His remarks came after NPP supporters taunted him with references to the “V8 saga” during his speech. Dumelo has since retracted his statements and expressed regret for his unfounded claims.
He said, “I want to say something. I can see their supporters have been mentioning V8, V8, V8. If that is the case, then it is also fair to say that maybe Lydia is the one who killed her husband to become MP.”
His comment has been met with criticism and disappointment by Women Caucus of the Ayawaso West Wuogon, who in black and red, wailed over the injustice done against the widow, Lydia Alhassan.
“We are wailing, we are crying, because today, John Dumelo has opened a wound, something we suffered five good years ago. For a man who was born from a woman to open his mouth to make such an utterance that a widow, single mother of five children who haven’t even attained the age of 18,” a spokesperson said.
Since the scathing remarks, the NDC aspirant has issued an apology for his recent accusations against Lydia Seyram Alhassan.
