ATTC students risk suspension for appearing in music video with school uniforms

A group of tertiary students from Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC) have found themselves at the center of a controversy that is causing concern within their educational institution.

These students had gained recognition for their remarkable dance talents, which had previously gone viral within the school.

However, their current predicament stems from their participation in a music video produced by the Ghanaian Afrobeatz artist, OliveTheBoy, where they appeared wearing their school uniforms. What has triggered outrage is the content of the video, which includes explicit themes, particularly focusing on sexual affairs, a stark departure from the wholesome image they had previously portrayed.

The students initially gained fame for their dance routine to Ghanaian dancehall artist Stonebwoy’s “Apotheke” song within the school premises. This time, they took their performance skills outside the campus by featuring in OliveTheBoy’s latest music video, “Goodsin.”

The school authorities swiftly responded, expressing their displeasure over the students’ involvement in the controversial video. They have launched an investigation to determine why the students left the school grounds to participate in the production while dressed in their uniforms, a clear violation of the school’s rules and regulations.

The video quickly gained attention on various social media platforms, leading to a divided school community. Some argue that the students have the right to pursue their interests outside of school, while others believe that their actions have harmed the school’s reputation.

This incident has also sparked discussions about the roles of educators and parents in monitoring and guiding students’ activities beyond the classroom. Many are questioning whether the students received adequate guidance and supervision regarding their participation in such a video.

At present, the school’s administration is reviewing the matter and contemplating disciplinary measures, including potential suspensions for the students involved. This incident underscores the challenges educators face in striking a balance between nurturing students’ creativity and upholding the institution’s values and standards.

As the investigation progresses, the students find themselves in an unfavorable spotlight, with their futures hanging in the balance as the school determines the appropriate course of action.
