Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah says he would like to play for Ghana

English footballer with Ghanaian roots, Eddie Nketiah, has expressed a willingness to represent the Black Stars, signalling a potential shift in his international allegiance.

The Arsenal forward has attracted interest from the Ghana Football Association, which has reportedly engaged in several discussions with him and his family about joining the Ghanaian national team.

Although Nketiah seemed to close the door on Ghanaian prospects when he was selected by former England manager Gareth Southgate in August 2023, recent developments suggest he may reconsider.

Despite his involvement with the England squad, Nketiah has struggled for playing time at Arsenal.

In a recent interview, the 25-year-old highlighted his connection to Ghana and revealed that he is open to playing for either Ghana or England, depending on the opportunities that arise.

“Obviously, my parents are both Ghanaians, and I’m from a Ghanaian heritage. It’s a possibility; I’m open to both, whether that’s playing for Ghana or England as well,” he said on the Beautiful Game podcast.

“I’ve played for the England youth teams, so obviously when I was younger they called me up to go and play for them.”

Eddie Nketiah is on the verge of leaving Arsenal, as the club has allowed him to undergo medical examinations with Crystal Palace.

The transfer is expected to be finalized with Crystal Palace paying £25 million, plus an additional £5 million in performance-related bonuses.

Nketiah, who rose through Arsenal’s youth ranks, is poised to make the move after being granted permission to discuss terms with his potential new club.
