On Thursday, September 28, an armed robber was fatally shot at a small-scale mining site near Wassa Akropong in the Western Region, specifically at Wassa Gromisa.
The incident unfolded when a group of three armed robbers attempted a heist at the mining site.
Upon their arrival at the site, the robbers initiated gunfire to induce fear and panic, creating an opportunity for their robbery. However, the skilled security guard at the site also engaged in gunfire, resulting in an exchange of gunshots.
Ultimately, the security guard managed to overpower the robbers, killing one of them and injuring another before the Wassa Akropong Police Command arrived at the scene to assist and rescue the security guard.
Before the police intervention, the robbers attempted to shoot the security guard but were unsuccessful. In response, they resorted to physically attacking him with machetes, causing injuries to his legs and hands.
Due to the severity of the security guard’s injuries, he has been transferred to the Komfo Anokyi Teaching Hospital for medical treatment. One of the robbers, who sustained gunshot wounds to the leg, is currently receiving treatment at the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital under police custody, while another remains at large.
The deceased robber’s body has been placed in the morgue, and investigations into the incident have commenced.
