Angry Sam George ‘humbles’ Tourism Minister Egyapa

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency, Samuel Nartey George, has faced off with the ruling government over what he alleges are misleading claims regarding the decrease of unemployment rate in the country.

In an appearance on GHOne TV, Sam George  who is also a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) described the ruling government as one who deliberately suppressed Ghanaians with false hopes with the aim of embezzling funds.

He specifically called out the Tourism Minister,  Egyapa Mercer and the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia demanding that they provide evidence to support their “lies”.

“The 2.3 million jobs is a lie, it’s a blatant disgraceful lie.  When Bawumia and Egyapa Mercer tell you they have created 2.3 million jobs tell them I Sam George says they are liars. If they have created 2.3 million jobs we must have a job surplus in Ghana. The Ghana Statistical Service says that the country has an unemployment rate of 14.7% and puts the number at 1.3 million Ghanaians. So if you have created 2.3 million jobs. If they have created  2.3 million jobs SSNIT has a total active participation of 1.8 million. So where are the jobs?,” he stated.

According to him, these assertions do not align with reports from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) which are used as government’s references.

“You referenced SSNIT as the source of your information meanwhile SSNIT has only 1.8 million active subscribers. If you are not lying then you are delusional. It’s either you are looking into the camera and lying to us. Young people of the country will not take these lies again. I am a young man, today thankfully I have a job but many young people like me and you don’t have a job. You promised them jobs, you haven’t given them the job and you claim you have created the jobs. How dishonest can you be? How dishonest can you be? Where are the jobs that you have created?,” he added.

He has asked the NPP to give up the efforts of breaking the eight cycle of governance as Ghanaians are ready to vote them out of power due to their unfulfilled promises.

His comment responds to the claim that no other administration in the Fourth Republic has created as many jobs as the NPP.

During the official launch of the NPP manifesto on Sunday, August 18, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that President Akufo-Addo’s administration has created 2.3 million jobs to date.
