The Executive Director of the Alliance for Christian Advocacy Africa, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, asserted that Akufo Addo’s remarks concerning development in Ekumfi do not elevate Mahama to an exceptional status.
Akufo Addo had previously stated that he withheld development in Ekumfi due to constituents’ failure to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Ato Cudjoe.
Rev. Opuni Frimpong expressed disappointment in the president’s statement, emphasizing that the president’s candor about the motive is troubling.
However, he also pointed out that this revelation does not cast Mahama in a favorable light.
“I have also listened. Especially where he said, “I want to be honest with you”… to be honest with you(I am actually saying the truth). but if you dont take care you will think it was just Akufo-Addo’s words but was Mahama any different?, he asked.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament (MP) representing Ekumfi Constituency in the Central Region, Mr. Abeiku Crentsil, strongly condemned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for proudly admitting to deliberately overlooking the development needs of the chiefs and residents in the area.
During an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s The Citizen Show with Nana Bobie Ansah on Thursday, January 18, 2024, Mr. Crentsil conveyed the disappointment of the constituents and underscored the resentment among the youth in response to the president’s statements.
Characterizing the president’s comments as highly disgraceful, Mr. Crentsil emphasized that the deliberate neglect of the region, as acknowledged by the president, has intensified the frustration felt by the local youth.
