Akufo-Addo to unveil 320 new homes for police officers

President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to inaugurate a new 320-unit housing development for the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. The event will take place at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.

The housing project, which commenced in 2018, features seven blocks of two-bedroom apartments and thirteen blocks of three-bedroom apartments, with each block containing sixteen units.

The development also includes a multipurpose sports facility, a kindergarten, and other supporting residential amenities.

According to a press release issued on July 19, 2024, by Elvis Adjei-Baah, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Works and Housing, this project is a significant part of the government’s strategy to improve living conditions for public service workers.

“The completion and utilization of this housing project will augment the government’s other housing programmes that are being rolled out to increase the residential stock of public service workers,” the statement read.

The Ministry highlighted that this housing project is designed to complement existing housing programs aimed at increasing the residential stock for public servants.

The Ministry underscored that this initiative will address accommodation issues in Ghana’s urban areas and help alleviate the national housing deficit, which currently stands at 1.8 million units.

“This project will reduce accommodation challenges in our sprawling cities and ultimately bridge the national housing deficit, which stands at 1.8 million housing units,” the release noted.

The new housing units are expected to provide much-needed accommodation for police officers, improving their welfare and enabling them to perform their duties more efficiently.

The commissioning ceremony will be attended by senior government officials, members of the Ghana Police Service, and other stakeholders from the housing sector, marking a key milestone in the government’s efforts to tackle housing challenges in the country.
