In the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region, Venunye Dordor, a teacher at Ave-Afiadenyigba RC Basic School, is accused of killing three of his children by drowning them in a water reservoir near his home.
The children’s dead bodies—two boys and a girl, each four, nine, and eleven years old—were pulled from the reservoir.
Assemblyman Isaac Sowu Newton reported that the Ave-Dakpa Police were contacted, who then transported the bodies to the St Anthony Hospital morgue in Dzodze for preservation and autopsy.
He admitted to receiving distress calls regarding the incident on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at around 2240 hours, according to the Ghana News Agency.
The suspect, a father of five who is thought to be in his 40s, allegedly dumped the trio into the reservoir before yelling for help after also making an effort to commit suicide, the witness claimed.
According to the locals, Mr. Sowu claimed that the suspect and his wife, who lived in Anloga, got into a disagreement.
He promised that the police would reveal their findings when it was appropriate.
The suspect, who is thought to be mentally ill, is currently being held by police and assisting with inquiries.
Since then, the incident has been reported to the GNA by a police source at Ave-Dakoa.
