An Irish sprinter of Nigerian ancestry, Rhasidat Adeleke has secured a slot in the Paris Olympics qualification.
Her impressive time of 22.36 seconds in the 200m makes her the fourth Irish athlete to meet the qualifying standard.
Although just 0.02 seconds away from her national record, she achieved this feat at the World Continental Tour Gold meet in Hungary, finishing second to Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson (22.02).
Adeleke joins Sarah Lavin (100m hurdles), Brian Fay (5000m), and Andrew Coscoran (1500m) in meeting the Paris target.
Her next challenge will be her Diamond League debut in Monaco on Friday.
For the Paris Olympics, athletes must meet the entry times between 1st July 2023 and 30th June 2024, with the assigned standard for the women’s 200m set at 22.57.
Ciara Mageean is also competing in Monaco, aiming for a time of 4:20.90 in the women’s mile to qualify for the 1500m event in Paris.
