Accused in Ashaley Botwe Junction murder faces High Court

Safina Mohammed Adizatu, a student accused of murdering her boyfriend in Ashaley Botwe in July last year, has appeared before the Accra High Court.

In August 2023, the District Court at Adenta in Accra ordered her to stand trial at the High Court for the murder of Frank Kofi Osei, a Ghanaian resident in Canada who was in Ghana for holidays.

Frank was brutally killed during his visit to Safina at Ashaley Botwe School Junction in Accra.

In a virtual session, the court granted Adizatu, also known as Safina Diamond, GH¢500,000 bail and mandated her to report to the Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service headquarters every two weeks.

The case was adjourned to October 13, 2023, when the substantive judge would take Safina’s plea and empanel the jury for the trial to commence.

Safina has declared her innocence regarding the murder charge filed against her by the police at the District Court.

The prosecution is expected to present nine witnesses, including Michael Fiifi Ampofo Arku, who was initially arrested as an accomplice but later released on the recommendation of the Attorney General.

The prosecution’s case states that on Sunday, July 24, 2022, Osei, who was vacationing in Ghana, visited Safina at Ashaley Botwe School Junction and decided to spend the night with her.

At night, Safina, Arku, and other yet-to-be-arrested accomplices allegedly stabbed Osei with a knife and strangled him. Safina and the accomplices purportedly cleaned Osei’s blood from the floor while the body remained in the room for 24 hours.

Subsequently, Osei’s body was moved from the first floor of the building down the staircase and left at the gate of the house where he had parked his Toyota Tundra.

Safina allegedly called the police, reporting that her boyfriend, who had visited her, had died in her room. When the police arrived, they found Osei’s body at the gate of Safina’s house and arrested her.
