The Chief of Aboso, Nana Kwabena Asante I, has formally requested an investigation into the actions of three senior officers from the Western Central Regional Police Command.
In a petition directed to the Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Chief, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, along with Queen Mother Nana Akosua Akomaso and other respected figures, has called for a thorough review of the officers’ conduct.
The petition, dated September 3, 2024, targets the Western Central Regional Police Commander, the Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, and Chief Inspector Joseph Bosman Amoako of Aboso.
It alleges that their actions fall below the expected moral standards of the Ghana Police Service and questions their effectiveness, particularly focusing on Chief Inspector Amoako.
“It is important to note that the actions of the Tarkwa Regional Police Command amount to an abuse of the rights of the people and pose a threat to the peace and security of the area, especially the Aboso community and its environs,” part of the letter read.
The document, lodged with both the Ministry of the Interior and the IGP’s office on September 11, 2024, details two main grievances.
The petition claims that the officers have been involved in supporting “some miscreants and non-indigenous groups” in appointing a rival chief in Aboso, despite the presence of a legally recognized chief.
Additionally, the petition accuses the Western Central Regional Police Commander of verbally abusing traditional leaders, including the Nifahene, who has warned of potential legal action if the harassment continues.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, the Chief’s letter urges swift action to prevent further escalation. “We appeal to your esteemed office to address this matter urgently to preserve the peace and security of the Aboso community,” the Chief stated.
