A Muslim woman has come to the defense of Ghanaian comedian, actor, and skit maker Dr. Likee following threats against him over alleged ‘degrading’ Islamic skits.
This follows an incident on June 19, 2024, when an angry Muslim man named Khalifa warned Dr. Likee during a live interview to stop producing skits that “downgrade” Islam.
In response, another Muslim, Sumaiyatu, urged her fellow Muslims to uphold the peace and love taught by the Holy Qur’an. In a video shared by @gharticles, Sumaiyatu advised Muslims to communicate without threats or violence towards those who may offend them.
Initially, Sumaiyatu felt a sense of fulfillment when she saw the beginning of Khalifa’s video, thinking that the peace and love taught by their Holy book were finally being embraced.
However, her hopes were dashed when Khalifa’s tone turned violent and threatening, which is completely contrary to their teachings.
“I recently watched a video where a man discussed Dr. Likee and his skits about Islam. At first, he spoke positively, which made me think people were beginning to embrace the peace and love taught by our Holy Qur’an.
However, it soon turned negative. Learn to react calmly without threats. Threats change nothing; learn to communicate peacefully” she stated.
She went on to warn Muslims to learn to practice the dictates of their Holy book, by being peaceful and loving.
“So, my fellow Muslims, allow me to ask: can’t we speak calmly to people when they offend us? Can’t we learn to be polite in our communication and how we convey our messages? Why must we resort to threats and warnings? Does that truly bring satisfaction?
What kind of example are we setting? Are we claiming to be better than anyone else in Ghana? Ghana is not solely for Muslims. The Qur’an teaches us peace and love. Don’t you understand love? she quizzed.
Dr Likee has produced and casted in quite a number of Muslim related stories. In some skits where he acts as a Muslim Mallam who violates the dictates of the Holy Book to stealthily eat during the Ramadan among others.
