Ghana Prisons Service has officially acknowledged the tragic incident involving the alleged lynching of Lance Corporal Gideon Adu Boakye, a prison officer based at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison. This incident took place on September 29, 2024, in Kasoa Iron City.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Service reported that the officer had obtained permission to visit relatives in Kasoa when he was reportedly attacked and killed by a group of unidentified assailants.
“The Prisons Administration is collaborating with the police to unravel the circumstances that led to the gruesome murder of the officer,” it stated.
Adding, “So far, six (6) persons made up of four (4) females and two (2) males have been arrested and arraigned before the court. The suspects have thus been remanded for further investigation into the matter.”
The Service said its leadership was committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book.
“The Service wishes to caution the general public against the use of “Instance Justice” in dealing with suspects but to resort to the Police to avoid harming and killing innocent individuals.”
“The entire Service commiserates with the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased officer and urges all officers to remain calm as steps are being taken to ensure that justice is served,” it stated.
