Why are you afraid of forensic examination if you have nothing to hide? – Nyaho Tamakloe questions EC

Founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Tamakloe has condemned the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision not to perform a forensic audit of the voter register before the 2024 elections.

During an interview with Joy News on September 19, he likened the EC’s position to an effort to hide evidence.

“Why should they fear a forensic examination if there’s nothing to hide?” he questioned. “This isn’t about partisan politics; we’re facing a serious issue that transcends NPP, NDC, or any other party. We need to focus on the state of our nation, which is already in distress.”

He stressed that this issue transcends party politics and pertains to the significant challenges facing Ghana’s democracy, urging citizens to take a national perspective instead of a partisan one.

“Things are getting worse and I am getting worried. I know there are elders my age and they have gone silent for reasons I don’t know. I hope with the sort of alarm bells from the trade union organisations and other sectors, that Ghanaian will sit up now,” he said.

His comments came in response to allegations from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which asserted that the EC denied their request for a forensic audit after raising concerns about irregularities, including the unlawful transfer of votes.

The NDC has accused the EC of enabling illegal vote transfers and is calling for a forensic audit to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
