VIDEO: Pius Hadzide washes clothes of constituents, grinds pepper during campaign

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Asuogyaman, Pius Hadzide, has adopted a hands-on approach to his election campaign, directly engaging with constituents in their daily activities.

In a recent video making rounds on social media, Mr. Hadzide can be seen washing clothes and grinding pepper for local residents as part of his door-to-door campaign initiative.

This move comes amid criticism over his controversial promise to help constituents who vote for him secure travel opportunities to the 2026 World Cup in the United States. Despite the backlash, Mr. Hadzide appears determined to demonstrate his commitment to serving the people of Asuogyaman through practical acts of assistance.

Mr. Hadzide is not the only politician to take such an unconventional approach. Similar campaign strategies have emerged across the political landscape, with candidates from both major parties engaging in community activities to connect with voters.

Amoh Kamel, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Asokwa, has also been seen interacting with residents in a variety of ways, including frying meat, preparing banku, and helping to unbraid hair for community members.

Earlier this year, Mike Oquaye Jnr., the NPP parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, gained attention for similar acts when he washed clothes for his constituents, underscoring the growing trend of political figures engaging in relatable activities to build rapport with voters.

These efforts reflect the lengths to which candidates are willing to go to establish stronger connections with their communities ahead of the 2024 general elections. Whether these gestures translate into votes remains to be seen, but they have certainly captured the attention of many Ghanaians online.

“Instead of explaining policies and exhibiting the achievements of NPP, see how desperate the visa racketeer has become,” a user wrote.
