A container truck driver was fatally shot and others were injured in a violent highway robbery at Agona Suromanya, Agona East District in the Central Region.
The attack occurred around 8:00 PM when highway robbers blocked the road, targeting over 15 vehicles and stealing more than GH₵100,000 along with mobile phones.
The robbery continued for over an hour until local residents, armed with homemade weapons, intervened.
Despite their repeated calls for police assistance, help was delayed, prompting the residents to take matters into their own hands.
The robbers shot and killed the truck driver, who was en route to Agona Swedru, and injured others before fleeing.
The delay in police response, which took over three hours, has left the community outraged.
Many believe that a quicker police arrival could have prevented the driver’s death.
