Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama, Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has called on Ghanaians to support staff working on the installation of new smart meters.
In an interview with Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of cooperating with the team to ensure smooth implementation.
He urged against confronting or hindering the staff, stressing their role is to complete the installation efficiently.
“There is no need to confront or obstruct our staff as they are all there to work. I urge all Ghanaians to comply with our team as they install the new smart prepaid meters” he appealed.
He also warned that any tampering with the new smart meters would be met with serious consequences.
This initiative is part of a larger project to replace outdated meters in the Accra East region with advanced Smart MMS-compliant prepaid meters.
Running from September 2 to September 30, 2024, the project aims to upgrade 250,000 meters in key districts such as Makola, Teshie, Legon, Roman Ridge, Kwabenya, Mampong, Dodowa, and Adentan.
The new meters will enhance reliability and allow customers to manage their electricity usage more easily through the ECG Power App or a short code (*226#).
Mr. Mahama is optimistic about the project’s success, which aligns with ECG’s broader Loss Reduction Project (LRP) to improve efficiency and reduce losses across the country.
