Al Ahli has reportedly reached an agreement with Brentford to sign Ivan Toney for £40 million ($53 million), sources have confirmed.
The 28-year-old striker has agreed to a lucrative three-year contract with the Saudi Pro League club and is scheduled to undergo a medical examination ahead of the finalisation of the transfer.
As of Friday morning, it remains uncertain if Al Ahli’s pursuit of Toney will affect their ongoing negotiations with Napoli for Victor Osimhen.
With less than a year remaining on his contract, Brentford has reluctantly decided to sell Toney this month rather than risk losing him for free next summer.
Toney has been a key player for Brentford, scoring 72 goals in 141 appearances.
However, Brentford manager Thomas Frank confirmed on Thursday that the England international would not be part of the squad for Saturday’s match against Southampton, regardless of the outcome on deadline day.
“I can say that Ivan will not play on Saturday,” Frank said.
“I can say I’m very happy to speak about the players who played last night [against Colchester] or the players who will play tomorrow.
“Ivan is training well and in good spirits, and I’m happy to [answer] more questions about Ivan the next time we are sitting here.”
