Clement Bonney, known in the film industry as Mr. Beautiful, recently commented on Ghana’s development challenges.
He suggested that the country’s underdevelopment is partly due to Ghanaians spending more time sleeping than working.
In an interview with Amansan Krakye, he noted, “Having spent time abroad, I observed that people there sleep less and work more. In Ghana, the opposite is true—people sleep more than they work. Additionally, abroad, the system is designed to keep people productive, whereas here, it seems people have more control over the system.”
Bonney also criticized the 24-hour economy concept promoted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), questioning how the country can advance when people’s sleeping hours exceed their working hours.
“In other countries, most activities and events happen in the evening or on holidays because people are busy working throughout the day,” he said. “We spend a lot of time in church and then wonder why we’re struggling economically. If we want to see progress, we need to balance our sleep and work hours better.”
