Monkey will go to the market and not return – NPP supporter threatens Dumelo

A supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has threatened the life of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo.

During a segment on TV3’s “Community Watch,” Mr Amponsah alleged that Dumelo has been issuing threats as part of his campaign.

He noted that the NPP supporters will not cower to any form of intimidation. According to him, he and others have been through hard times in the desert where they were forced to drink urine to survive.

“I want to tell John Dumelo… all your talks are threats…. we were those in the desert and had to drink urine. Has he drunk urine before? Enough of your threats. One day, monkey will go to the market and monkey will not return,” he said.

As it stands now, The Independent Ghana has not come across any video or information that suggests that Mr Dumelo has been issuing threats to constituents.

In a related event, Dumelo has issued an apology for his recent accusations against Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency.

During a segment on TV3’s “Community Watch,” Dumelo implied that Alhassan may have been involved in her husband’s death to gain political power.

His remarks came after NPP supporters taunted him with references to the “V8 saga” during his speech. Dumelo has since retracted his statements and expressed regret for his unfounded claims.

He said, “I want to say something. I can see their supporters have been mentioning V8, V8, V8. If that is the case, then it is also fair to say that maybe Lydia is the one who killed her husband to become MP.

That is it because if they want to go that tangent, I can also go the same tangent. If they want to go that tangent, I will go the same tangent because this time around, it is boot for boot.”

John Dumelo’s recent remarks about Lydia Seyram Alhassan did not go down well with many social media users, particularly on X (formerly Twitter).

Facing backlash for his comments, Dumelo responded by taking to X to issue an apology.

He acknowledged his mistake and expressed regret for the statement he made during the TV3 “Community Watch” program, aiming to clear the air and mend relations with those offended by his words.

“I apologise and retract the comments I made earlier today on TV3,” he said.
