Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal (17) is set to miss the majority of the season after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the LaLiga club announced on Wednesday. ‘
The injury occurred during Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday, forcing Bernal to leave the pitch in the final minutes.
Bernal, who made his debut in Barcelona’s opening-day victory against Valencia, also sustained damage to the external meniscus in his left knee.
“He will undergo surgical treatment in the coming days,” Barcelona said in a statement.
Barcelona face Real Valladolid next in La Liga on Saturday.
