Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney, known as DKB, recently shared how his attempt to meet President Nana Akufo-Addo never materialized.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix, DKB expressed disappointment, attributing the failure to those supposed to facilitate the meeting.
Despite this setback, DKB proudly considers himself the only comedian to have performed before every President of Ghana.
He is now actively supporting John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, in the upcoming December 7, 2024 election.
“It was very pleasant and shocking to me when John Mahama repeated two of my jokes on stage. I couldn’t sleep till morning. He’s captured my heart and right now I’m a presidential comedian,” DKB told aKorfa.
At the launch of the NDC’s Youth Manifesto on August 12, 2024, held at the Bukom Boxing Arena, DKB was thrilled when Mahama repeated two of his jokes during his speech.
This gesture deeply impressed DKB, prompting him to pledge his support for Mahama’s campaign. He emphasized that while he does not harbor animosity towards the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he feels honored and motivated to help Mahama in his presidential bid.
“It was one huge endorsement in my whole career and I have been through a lot in this country so if a President is talking about your joke and how he loves your joke, the only thing you can also do is to help him become President and realise his dream. So right now, I am fully pushing John Mahama. It doesn’t mean I hate NPP,” he indicated.
DKB’s support aligns with other notable figures in the entertainment industry, such as Big Akwes, Christiana Awuni, Mercy Asiedu, Jack Alolome, and Kofi Okyere Darko, who have also endorsed the NDC ahead of the elections.
