We need more Highlife award categories to inspire upcoming artistes – Bisa Kdei

Award-winning singer Bisa Kdei has called for more Highlife categories in Ghana’s music award schemes to inspire younger musicians to embrace the genre.

During an appearance on the Onua Showtime Entertainment program, hosted by Nana Ama McBrown, Bisa Kdei emphasized the importance of preserving Highlife music, urging Ghanaians to take pride in their musical heritage.

He pointed out that many artists shy away from being associated with Highlife, fearing it is seen as an outdated genre.

“We need more Highlife categories in our award schemes to encourage the younger generation to embrace and produce Highlife music. I’ve committed myself to championing Highlife because it has opened numerous opportunities for me as an artist,” he shared.

Bisa Kdei also advocated for the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) to modernize its system by digitizing it, enabling artists to better monitor their earnings.

Speaking on his new song “Boso,” which is gaining popularity on social media, Bisa Kdei expressed his desire to reignite a passion for Highlife among fans, as he believes the genre is a vital part of Ghana’s cultural and musical identity.

The official music video for “Boso” is anticipated to be released soon.
