My acting career is not dead; I am in politics out of choice — Prince David Osei

Popular Ghanaian actor and New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Prince David Osei has addressed rumors suggesting his political involvement stems from a decline in his acting career.

During an interview with GHOne TV, he dismissed these claims as laughable.

Prince David Osei emphasized his continued success in the film industry, noting that he has been working on various international projects.

His latest film, Letter to Goddo, has even received a nomination for the Toronto Film Festival.

He asserted, “If someone claims I’m entering politics because my acting career is over, that’s just a joke.”

When questioned about his frequent roles in Nigerian films compared to Ghanaian ones, Osei explained that financial constraints often limit opportunities in Ghanaian productions.

He revealed that local producers frequently cannot meet his asking price, although he sometimes takes on roles as favors for colleagues.

Osei also reaffirmed his commitment to the NPP, clarifying that his political support is a personal decision rather than a financially motivated one.

“There’s a misconception that I’m involved in politics for monetary gain. That’s not the case. I haven’t received any money for my political involvement,” he stated.
