The Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has reiterated the party’s pledge to build a modern fertility center and a 500-bed children’s hospital if they secure victory in the 2024 general elections.
During an interview on TV3’s NewDay on Monday, August 26, 2024, he emphasized that the exorbitant cost of fertility treatments in Ghana is a major obstacle for numerous families.
“We have also indicated that in our manifesto that one of the things that unsettles home is the issue of fertility. We are going to build a specialised 500-bed children hospital and a fertility hospital,” he noted.
He highlighted that fertility challenges often lead to significant emotional strain for many couples.
Edudzi Tameklo emphasized that the creation of the fertility center would provide relief and comfort to families facing these difficulties.
“If you look at homes and what the issues of fertility have done, you have no idea. The hospitals that do it, the cost of doing it — you have no idea. It’s beyond the reach of most households. His, Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, as sympathetic as he is, is saying that this is what we want to do,” he explained.
At the party’s manifesto launch on Saturday, August 24, 2024, former president and NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, revealed that the next NDC administration intends to establish a state-of-the-art 500-bed Specialist Children’s Hospital and a Fertility Center in Accra to address infertility challenges.
