The former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central and a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Victor Okuley Nortey, has died.
Nortey passed away on August 18, 2024, at the Nyaho Clinic in Accra after a brief illness. Jefferson Sackey, the NPP’s candidate for the Ablekuma Central seat in 2024, announced the news via Facebook. Sackey, who succeeded with Nortey as his campaign manager in the 2023 NPP primary, reflected on Nortey’s significant contributions and the profound impact of his passing.
Sackey highlighted Nortey’s exceptional guidance and dedication, noting that his loss is deeply felt within the party and constituency, particularly during this pivotal moment.
In his tribute, Sackey extended his thoughts and prayers to Nortey’s family and the NPP community in Ablekuma Central, acknowledging the great void left by his departure.
Victor Okuley Nortey was born in 1958 in the Greater Accra Region. He entered Parliament in 1999, following the death of the then-MP Clement Samuel Crabbe. Serving until January 6, 2009, he holds the distinction of being the longest-serving MP for Ablekuma Central.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the entire NPP fraternity in Ablekuma Central during this difficult time,” he mourned.
