I never received a movie role from LilWin – Martha Ankomah

Actress Martha Ankomah clarified that she did not recently reject a role in LilWin’s movie ‘A Country Called Ghana‘. Instead, she explained that two years ago, director Frank Fiifi Gharbin approached her for a different project.

Speaking exclusively to Prince Benjamin (PB) on Accra 100.5 FM’s Entertainment Capital, she addressed the misunderstanding, stating, “It was not about their recent movie, A Country Called Ghana.”

Martha expressed frustration over the misconception that she had dismissed the offer disrespectfully.

She shared that Gharbin had pitched a movie centered around a couple, but she declined due to its storyline involving spirits, a theme that doesn’t interest her.

Despite this, she expressed a willingness to collaborate with Gharbin on other projects.

Unfamiliar with Gharbin and his association with Kumawood prior to their conversation, Martha revealed, “Were it not for this incident, I wouldn’t have known he was a Kumawood director.”

She noted that Gharbin’s narration of the story, rather than sending a script, and the casting choices did not indicate it was a Kumawood production.

Their conversation two years ago was their only interaction, Martha confirmed, adding that they had agreed to work together on a future project.

In early February 2024, Kumawood actor and filmmaker Kwadwo ‘LilWin’ Nkansah publicly criticized Martha, claiming she harbored a disdain for Kumawood.

He questioned her talent, popularity, and relevance as a brand ambassador for Ghana Textile Printers (GTP), suggesting her success was due to connections with influential men in Ghanaian society.

Martha responded by filing a GH¢5 million defamation lawsuit on February 14.

The legal proceedings are ongoing.

The movie ‘A Country Called Ghana’ is produced by LilWin and directed by Frank Fiifi Gharbin.
