A driver’s mate is in critical condition after being allegedly shot by Corporal Franklin Forson at a police checkpoint in Danchira, Ga South Municipality.
The incident took place on July 28, 2024, when Corporal Forson allegedly fired his assault rifle without any apparent provocation, hitting the victim.
According to adomonline.com, eyewitness Isaac Okyere, the driver of the Kia truck, reported that he was stopped and questioned by a Community Police Assistant at the checkpoint. Suddenly, Corporal Forson opened fire, hitting the truck’s empty bucket.
The bullets penetrated the cabin, severely injuring the driver’s mate, who was immediately rushed to the hospital.
The driver is demanding an independent investigation and justice for the victim, the report noted.
Senior police officers have declined to comment on the incident, but sources suggest it is being considered an accident.
The report further stated that Corporal Forson has been instructed to cover the victim’s medical expenses.
The Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau (PIPS) is currently investigating the case.
