Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has made startling allegations against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming that the party had orchestrated a plot to murder her son, Ato Koomson.
This shocking revelation was made during a Peace Talk event held at the Kasoa Odikro Palace, which aimed to mediate conflicts between the NDC and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency.
Ato Koomson was attacked and stabbed during a voter transfer exercise, sustaining a severe chest injury allegedly inflicted by an NDC ward organiser.
In her first public statement on the matter, Hawa Koomson revealed that she had received prior information about an intended assassination plot against her son, including details about the supposed assailant.
“I had received information about a plot to shoot my son,” Koomson disclosed.
She added that she had promptly informed the police about the threat, as she was aware of the identity of the person supposedly hired to carry out the attack.
However, she expressed deep frustration with the police’s handling of the case, stating that despite identifying the suspect to law enforcement before the incident, it later emerged that he was indeed the individual who attacked her son.
The Peace Talk event, attended by local and opinion leaders, sought to address tensions between the NDC and NPP in the area.
During the meeting, Stephen Ofosu Agyari, the NDC Constituency Chairman for Awutu Senya East, committed to working with party members to ensure a peaceful electoral process, highlighting a shared interest in maintaining harmony despite the recent allegations.
