Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has unequivocally stated that he never aspired to become the running mate for the party in the upcoming 2024 elections.
In an interview with Onua FM on July 15, 2024, Wontumi humorously pointed out his limitation with English proficiency, emphasizing that he would not pursue a position that could potentially make him a topic of discussion due to his language skills.
“I never wanted the running mate position. I can’t even speak better English to become a running mate. I have a limit to my English, so I won’t go and say anything for me to become a topic of discussion because of my English,” Wontumi explained candidly.
Despite dismissing any personal ambitions for the role, Wontumi expressed strong support for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, who has been selected as the NPP’s running mate.
He highlighted the importance of unity within the party and reaffirmed his endorsement of NAPO’s candidacy alongside Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the presidency.
“We are committed to ensuring their victory in the 2024 elections,” Wontumi affirmed, dispelling rumors of internal conflict within the NPP regarding NAPO’s selection.
He emphasized that his role included endorsing NAPO, contributing to the party’s unified front as they prepare for the electoral contest.
