In a post on the X platform he  highlighted the importance of maintaining hope and resilience in the face of adversity.

“If we are actually moving into such realms of living illuminating possibilities, then there is no reason to throw our hands up in despair. Ghana shall not die,” he wrote.

The NDC’s former Deputy General’s encouragement comes after a viral video showed a Ghanaian man lauding the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s digitization efforts.

According to the man, his Ghana card served as passport while traveling back to Ghana from Cameroon.

“The Ghana card is actually a passport, the doubting Thomas must understand, I am currently at the Douala Airport travelling back to Ghana and I used my Ghana card. The card is actually a passport. Kudos to the NPP government and Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. May God richly bless Ghana,” he added.

In 2021, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that the Ghana card  will be acknowledged as an electronic passport across 197 countries by 2022.

Speaking during a public lecture on the digital economy at Ashesi University on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, the Vice President highlighted that this development aims to enhance the convenience of travel for Ghanaians living abroad.

“The Ghana card will be recognized as an e-passport and can be read and verified in all [International Civil Aviation Organization] ICAO compliant borders (in 197 countries and 44,000 airports in the world). When this happens, holders of the Ghana card will be allowed to board any flight to Ghana.”

“Furthermore, the good news for diasporan Ghanaians is that when the Ghana Immigration Service is linked to the NIA architecture, diasporan Ghanaians who hold the Ghana card should not have to obtain visas to travel to Ghana.”

Highlighting additional advantages of the Ghana card, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia noted that Ghanaian missions and foreign embassies will utilize the card to verify the identities of Ghanaians abroad.

Dr. Bawumia further revealed that the government has collaborated with the International Civil Aviation Organization to enable the global activation of the Ghana card’s e-passport functionality.

“We expect this to be operational by the end of the first quarter of next year. Ghana is one of the few countries in the world where the national ID card is also an e-passport,” he said.
