The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has rejected the autopsy findings and is calling for an independent post-mortem and toxicology examination.
Mohbad died on September 12 at 27, in circumstances that raised questions, prompting the police to conduct an autopsy on September 21 to determine the cause of death.
In a virtual press conference led by Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, and their legal team, they expressed dissatisfaction with the inconclusive nature of the autopsy results.
They specifically raised concerns about where and how the autopsy and toxicology tests were conducted, noting conflicting reports.
The family stressed the importance of having a reputable and internationally recognized forensic laboratory re-examine the toxicology samples to ensure adherence to the highest forensic science standards.
They called for transparency, collaboration with international experts, and prompt action from relevant authorities, including the Inspector General of Nigeria Police, to uncover the truth and bring justice to Mohbad’s memory.
Furthermore, they urged the coroner’s court to expedite a hearing on their request for an independent autopsy and toxicology test, highlighting its critical role in delivering justice and revealing the actual circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. Despite challenges like body decomposition, they emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth.
They remarked: “We, the legal representatives of the Aloba family, express our profound dissatisfaction and disappointment with the recent announcement regarding the toxicology test results of the late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba (Mohbad), which have been declared inconclusive by the pathologist.
“This outcome is entirely unacceptable to us and the Aloba family and raises serious concerns about the integrity and thoroughness of the investigation by the police and the medical team into the untimely death of their beloved son, brother, and friend. The Aloba family and the world demand to know where the toxicology test was carried out as this has impugned the integrity.”
