Creative director Elizabeth Efua Sutherland responsible for Stonebwoy‘s exceptional performance at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), revealed that she created the stagecraft in less than a week. The event, held on June 1, 2024, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), saw numerous celebrity appearances. However, it was Stonebwoy’s performance that truly captivated the audience.
Stonebwoy, whose real name is Livingstone Etse Satekla, was the star of the night. He not only won the prestigious “Artiste of the Year” award but also took home six awards in total, making him the most awarded artist of the evening. His live band performance included hits like “Manodzi,” featuring Grammy-winning Angélique Kidjo, and the unreleased track “Your Body.”
The Afro-Dancehall/Reggae artist’s performance was hailed as world-class, leaving a lasting impression on both the 3 million viewers who watched live and fans globally.
In an interview with Ekow Koomson on The Chat, an entertainment show on ChannelOne TV, Efua Sutherland explained the rapid preparation process. “We received the call quite late, so it took less than a week. Normally, I would spend around six weeks preparing for such a performance. It’s rewarding to see the hard work appreciated.”
Efua Sutherland, following the legacy of her renowned grandmother Efua Theodora Sutherland—a playwright, dramatist, and poet—expressed her passion for working with “conscious artists,” a trait she admires in Stonebwoy.
