A broadcast journalist working with Sankara Radio in Yendi, Shaharan Suhuyini, has reportedly been attacked by individuals suspected to be supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Taking to Facebook, Shaharan Suhuyini recounted the incident, stating, “So I was attacked yesterday by some NPP miscreants in Yendi when I went to the EC’s office to observe and report on the ongoing vote transfers. Whiles introducing myself to the police upon arrival, I heard the boys of the MP for Yendi shout my name and said I should vacate from the premises.”
He explained that the attack was motivated by his association with Sankara Radio 103.1, owned by MASLOC CEO Shani Abibata.
“When I enquired to know why, they violently said because I’m an Abibata’s boy (because I work at Sankara Radio 103.1) and for that matter, they didn’t want me near the EC’s office to observe what was going on there. Zogbee Naa approached and pleaded with me to leave looking at how charged the guys were but I insisted I was there to work and wasn’t going anywhere. Upon several pleas, I decided to go. Just as I was about leaving with one of my reporters who picked me up on a bike, one #Abdul_Baaki_Abukari slashed my neck with a sharp object believed to be a blade.”
He further stated that the incident has been reported to the Yendi police divisional command for further investigation.
