In a recent development, a driver employed by the Anlo Traditional Council has found himself in hot water after being apprehended by law enforcement for transporting a large quantity of smuggled cocoa beans.

Abraham Senyaglo, a native of Keta, was intercepted on Saturday evening while driving a Toyota Hiace Van belonging to the Anlo Traditional Council.

The vehicle was found to be carrying 26 bags of cocoa beans concealed in fertilizer sacks on the Adomi-Atimpoku stretch.

According to reports, Senyaglo had been on an errand to deliver items donated by the Anlo Traditional Council to the Asantehene at Manhyia Palace as part of the latter’s 25th-anniversary celebrations.

However, upon his return journey, he agreed to help a friend transport the cocoa beans from Suhum to Dodze, unaware that they were illegally acquired.

The driver claimed that he didn’t notice the police signal to stop, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in his arrest around the Adomi Bridge in the Eastern Region.

However, the police account contradicts this, stating that clear signals were given to stop the vehicle.

As the investigation unfolds, Senyaglo and the seized goods are currently in the custody of the Sogakope Police, pending further action.

This incident marks another success in the ongoing efforts of the Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Taskforce, which has secured several convictions in recent months.

The task force remains vigilant in its mission to combat illegal cocoa smuggling activities.
