Hearts Committee Chair, NDC Constituency Exec.: 3 interesting facts about Gborbu Wulomo of Nungua

Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII, known as the Gborbu Wulomo, is a prominent traditional high priest in the Nungua indigenous community, wielding significant spiritual authority.

Gborbu Wulomo has been involved in a controversial ceremony that sparked widespread condemnation.

It was alleged that he “married” a 12-year-old girl, but the Ga Traditional Council clarified that the girl was 16 years old, and the ceremony was a traditional betrothal, not a marriage.

The office of Gborbu Wulomo stated that the girl is considered a property of the Nungua deity.

Leadership Roles:

Born into the Ga community, Gborbu Wulomo has been actively involved in traditional and community affairs from a young age. He served as the assistant secretary of the June 4 Movement (Nungua Branch) from 1980 to 1981, later becoming the secretary.

He has held various leadership roles within organizations like the Nungua Area PDC and Nungua CDRS in the early 1980s. He also served as the chairman of the Krowor Constituency for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the 2001 elections and was an aspiring NDC regional chairman for Greater Accra in 2014.

Education and Scholarship:

He pursued further education abroad under the Ghana government’s sponsorship, studying Method of Youth Organisation in Bulgaria and obtaining a Diploma in Social Sciences from the Lenin School of Social Sciences in the then USSR (Russia). He contributed significantly to the information, culture, and education sector in the Accra District CDRS from 1984 to 1988.

Sports Enthusiast:

He was actively involved in sports administration, particularly with Accra Hearts of Oak S/C Ltd. Starting as a management member/assistant team manager in 1998, he later became the team manager in 2003 and the operational director. He was appointed chairman of the interim management committee (IMC) of Accra Hearts of Oak S/C Ltd in 2007.
