Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has praised the outstanding performance of the Ghanaian team at the recently concluded African Games, calling their accomplishments heartening and a source of great national pride.

“I applaud each member of the Ghanaian team for their unwavering dedication, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence. Your outstanding accomplishments not only elevate our nation’s pride but also ignite inspiration among aspiring athletes across Ghana,” he said.
Minister Ussif, speaking at a news conference in Accra on March 25, 2024, expressed gratitude to the President, Vice President, and Ghanaians for their steadfast support during the 2023 African Games.
The event, featuring athletes from various nations, showcased the collective talents and efforts across the continent.
The 2023 African Games wrapped up with a vibrant ceremony after 16 days of thrilling competition.
Ghana emerged as a standout performer, clinching a record-breaking 69 medals, marking the country’s most successful outing in the competition’s 59-year history.
The medal tally included 19 gold, 29 silver, and 21 bronze medals, achieved across 10 sporting disciplines.
Notably, arm wrestling contributed significantly to Ghana’s medal count, securing 41 medals, which accounted for 60% of the total.
Minister Ussif also emphasised the government’s commitment to maintaining the sporting facilities constructed for the African Games.
He highlighted President Akufo-Addo’s plans to repurpose and sustain these facilities for the broader sporting community beyond the conclusion of the games.
This underscores the government’s dedication to fostering sports development and providing athletes with opportunities to excel in world-class facilities.
