US-led ‘justified accord’ exercise launches in Kenya with over 20 nations participating

Embarking on Monday, a multinational military drill dubbed “Justified Accord” commences in Kenya, heralded as the largest of its kind in East Africa, with over 20 nations participating.

Running for 11 days until next Thursday, the exercise aims to bolster the readiness of participating countries for peacekeeping missions, crisis response, and humanitarian assistance, as reported by state-owned Somali broadcaster SNTV and Kenyan media outlets.

Notably, the event will feature the involvement of numerous US-trained Somali commandos, alongside personnel and units from 23 nations, as highlighted by private news website Kenyans.co.ke.

Described by the US military as its “largest exercise in East Africa,” Justified Accord underscores the commitment of the US and partner nations to enhance regional security and crisis response through increased readiness and interoperability.

This initiative comes amid ongoing security challenges in East Africa, including the persistent threat posed by the al-Shabab insurgency, prompting the US to lead similar exercises in the region in recent years.
