Touching! Life of Christian Atsu in Newcastle’s documentary

Premier League team Newcastle United has released a touching documentary chronicling the life of the late Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu.

Atsu tragically lost his life in the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey on February 18, 2023.

A year after his passing, Newcastle United, where Atsu made a significant impact during his career, travelled to Ghana to document the life of their former player.

The documentary begins with Atsu’s twin sisters reflecting on their humble upbringing, growing up alongside their ten other siblings in a village in Ada Foah.

It vividly portrays Atsu’s journey from his rural roots to the bustling streets of Accra, where he first showcased his football talents with FC Peace before joining Cheetar FC in 2008 in Awutu Senya.

His former manager, Hay Yartey, shares stories of Atsu’s resilience, highlighting how he overcame challenges and earned a move abroad to Porto in Portugal.

The documentary delves into Atsu’s personal life, capturing intimate moments between him and his wife, Marie-Claire Rupio.

Marie-Claire recounts their love story, from their initial encounter in Portugal to the cherished memories they created together.

She reflects on the depth of the loss and how she is navigating life after the passing of her beloved husband.

The narrative tragically shifts to Atsu’s untimely death and the lasting impact he made through his philanthropic efforts.

Although Atsu passed away at the age of 31, he left an enduring legacy on the global stage, representing the Black Stars in 65 international matches.

His distinguished career saw him play for clubs such as Vitesse, Chelsea, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Everton, and Malaga, among others.
