Ivan Toney’s price reportedly a scare for Manchester United

Manchester United is aware that Chelsea and Arsenal are leading the race to secure the signature of Brentford striker Ivan Toney, according to The Daily Star.

In response, the Red Devils are hesitant to engage in a bidding war for the 27-year-old forward.

Manager Erik ten Hag is eager to bolster his attacking options at Old Trafford ahead of the 2024–25 season and has identified Toney as a potential target.

The striker has expressed his desire to depart Brentford, a sentiment echoed by Bees manager Thomas Frank, who believes Toney is likely to move on in the summer transfer window.

In addition to Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are also monitoring Toney’s situation closely.

However, Brentford is reportedly demanding a hefty £100 million transfer fee for Toney, a figure that new minority United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe considers excessive.

Ratcliffe believes that a more reasonable valuation would be closer to £70 million and is hesitant to engage in a bidding war with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Since returning from an eight-month gambling suspension, Toney has featured in three Premier League matches, netting goals against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in his first two appearances.
