The festive season took an unexpected turn for renowned Ghanaian rapper Solomon Adu Antwi, popularly known as Yaa Pono, as he announced the passing of his father, Mr. Adu Antwi, on Christmas day.
The somber news was shared by Yaa Pono in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on December 28, 2023.
”Really hard 4 uptown losing my Dad on a Christmas Day .Jah guide you on your journey,,,Mr Adu Antwi…,” he wrote.
In a 2022 interview on Angel FM, the well-known singer emphasized the pivotal role his father played in his journey to fame. Yaa Pono expressed gratitude, acknowledging that his father’s unwavering support was instrumental in his achievements. He credited his father for working tirelessly to mold him into the responsible individual and parent he has become over the years.
“My father is everything to me, and he has bestowed everything he has on me. He picked me up and drove me to where I am now, for which I am grateful.”
The rap icon thus released the song “Yegya” from the “Sovran” album to express gratitude to his father for all that he has done for him saying “if I were my dad, I wouldn’t have survived”.
