Ghana’s security at risk due to disinformation – Kan-Dapaah

National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, has emphasized the serious implications of disinformation and fake news on the country’s peace and security.

He highlighted the significant threat that the spread of false narratives via social media platforms poses to Ghana’s security.

Kan-Dapaah delivered these remarks during a conference addressing the Impact of Disinformation on Electoral Integrity, Peace, and Security in Africa.

He shed light on the challenges linked to disinformation, particularly in light of recent events, such as the coup in Niger.

Kan-Dapaah remarked, “following the coup in Niger, certain individuals in academia, civil society, and the media, as you may have observed, have been spreading false narratives in support of a coup or military rule.”

He emphasized the gravity of the situation by stating, “and let me reiterate today, from my current position, I can confidently say that handling this information is one of the major security challenges I face on a daily basis.”

The proliferation of false information through various channels has become an increasingly worrisome concern, especially in the context of national security.
