Two seasoned Ghanaian gospel musicians, Great Ampong and Nicholas Omane Acheapong, have emerged as the organisers behind the demonstration against the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) scheduled for October 4.

They lead a group known as the Ghana Football Stakeholders Forum, which is spearheading the protest against the GFA leadership.

The Ghana Police have granted approval for the group to proceed with their planned protest.

During an interview on Peace FM, Great Ampong expressed his dissatisfaction with the disqualification of George Afriyie, the former Vice President of the GFA, from the race for the GFA presidential position.

He also pointed out that the current GFA administration has led to significant turmoil in football, to the extent that Ghana’s performance in tournaments has suffered.

He pointed out that “since they took over, everything has declined, from the U17 to the Black Stars, we always get knockouts. If the GFA president thinks he has achieved the unprecedented, why does he want to go unopposed? He should allow his opponents to join the race.”

According to him, although he is a musician, he has always loved football, and it’s evident since his brother is a musician and his children are also in the football academy.

He emphasised the strong connection between football and music, saying, “Football and music go together, which is why often before matches you see players listening to songs. I was blessed with football talent as well, but it’s music I decided to pursue. All my children are in the academy; my brother is also a footballer. We are rescuing Ghana football for our next generation.”

The Ghana Football Stakeholders Forum intends to submit a petition to the GFA, Ministry of Sports, and Office of the President with the aim of rescuing Ghanaian football from the leadership of Kurt Okraku.
