Tarikpaa community receives CHPS Compound

Residents of Tarikpaa, a farming community situated within the Savelugu Municipality of the Northern Region, can now find solace in the establishment of a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound.

The comprehensive facility encompasses an outpatient department (OPD), pharmacy, child welfare unit, consulting and delivery rooms, store and sluice areas, as well as washrooms. Constructed by World Vision Ghana, the CHPS compound aims to facilitate accessible healthcare for the community and its surroundings.

Previously, community members had to travel approximately 15 kilometers to Savelugu, the Municipal capital, for medical care.

This new facility will not only improve local healthcare but also boost Tarikpaa’s economy by sparing residents from unproductive travel time.

The inauguration of the CHPS compound was a significant part of the official closure of the Savelugu Area Programme by World Vision after 24 years of impactful investments in critical sectors across selected communities.

National Director of World Vision Ghana, Laura Del Valle, Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu Seidu Ayishetu, and Paramount Chief of the Zugu Traditional Area Naa Professor Yakubu Nantogma jointly inaugurated the facility, marking the end of the Savelugu Area Programme.

Delivering Quality Healthcare

During the ceremony, Ms. Valle highlighted the CHPS compound’s contribution to accessible and high-quality healthcare. Over the past 24 years, World Vision had positively impacted 152,398 beneficiaries, including children, women, and men, through interventions in sectors like water, sanitation, hygiene, primary healthcare, nutrition, education, community advocacy, child protection, and sponsorship programming.

She emphasized, “Since its inception, WVG has invested approximately $2,673,278 to support the most vulnerable, including children and their communities.”

Acknowledging the transformation brought about by these interventions, Valle expressed her excitement and gratitude for the positive outcomes observed over two decades.

Maintaining a Positive Legacy

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hajia Ayishetu, commended World Vision for their transformative interventions, pledging the assembly’s commitment to ensuring the upkeep of the projects for sustainable impact.

The Paramount Chief of the Zugu Traditional Area echoed his appreciation, acknowledging the NGO’s efforts in driving positive change within the region.

“Since its inception, WVG has invested approximately $2,673,278 to support the most vulnerable including children and their communities.”

“Today, I am excited to see the results of 24 years of transformative development in the lives of children and their families, with one of them chairing this closure durbar,” she said.

The inauguration of the CHPS compound signifies not only improved healthcare accessibility but also the legacy of positive change brought by World Vision’s dedicated efforts.
