Twitter shares ad revenues with content creators

Twitter has announced a new programme that will allow a group of selected content creators to earn a share of the advertising revenue generated from ads displayed in response to their posts.

The social media platform announced the programme on Thursday, 13 July 2023, saying that it was part of its efforts to help people earn a living directly on Twitter.

“Surprise! Today we launched our Creator Ads Revenue Sharing programme. We’re expanding our creator monetisation offering to include ads revenue sharing for creators,” a tweet from Twitter said.

According to Twitter’s ‘Creator Ads Revenue Sharing’ page, creators will be able to earn a share in ad revenue starting from the replies to their posts. The programme will be available in all the countries where Stripe supports payouts.

To be eligible for the programme, creators must:

•  Be subscribed to Twitter Blue or Verified Organisations

•  Have at least 5 million impressions on their posts in each of the last three months

•  Pass human review for Creator Monetisation Standards

They will also need a Stripe account, which is a payment platform that Twitter works with for payouts. They will also have to adhere to Twitter’s Creator Subscriptions policies.

Twitter said it would soon launch an application process for the programme and that all eligible creators would be able to apply by accessing Monetisation in their settings.

The programme comes a few days after Twitter’s ‘rival’ Threads was launched, which is also intended to attract more content creators to the platform.

Earlier this year, Twitter introduced a feature that enabled users to provide paid subscriptions for their content on the platform.

Elon Musk, the billionaire who acquired Twitter in October last year, has previously stated that for the first year, the company would transfer the entirety of subscription revenue to creators, excluding charges related to payment gateways.
