Traders at the Agormanya market, located in the Lower Manya Krobo district of the Eastern Region of Ghana, have lamented the spate of criminal activity in the market.
According to the traders, some unidentified people go around the market and steal goods left behind by the traders.
Describing the situation as worrying, a trader who sells footwear at the Agormanya market told Ghanaweb that her items have been stolen on six occasions.
The situation, she said, made her stay out of business for a long time before being able to gather some capital to start all over again.
Speaking in her local dialect, she said, “Most times my goods are left here at dawn, but by the time I get here, the thieves will pick her entire back full of footwear away.â€
Another trader who sells clothes while sharing her ordeal mentioned that her sack of materials worth thousands of Cedis was stolen by the unidentified men. She blamed the spate of criminal activities on the non-availability of security personnel at the market.
The traders called on the executives in the community to act swiftly with security personnel and bring to book these perpetrators.
They also called for the construction of a fence wall to prevent thieves from having easy access to the market during the night.
