The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has responded to recent social media buzz surrounding a proposed request to purchase 15 keyboards at a cost of GHȼ4,500 each for board members.
COCOBOD clarified that this request is still in the proposal stage and has not been approved.
The initial memo, which included the request for keyboards and was endorsed by certain individuals in positions of authority, triggered online ridicule and speculation.
Many questioned the high cost per unit and made satirical comments about Ghana’s financial status.
In response, COCOBOD’s Public Affairs Department issued a statement on Monday, April 1, explaining that the proposal aims to reduce paper and stationery usage during board meetings.
It also aims to improve productivity and collaboration among board members, utilising the “CONVENE” App.
The statement emphasized that no procurement transactions for the keyboards have been sanctioned yet, despite the circulated memo.
COCOBOD reiterated that management has not approved the purchase, and the proposal remains under consideration.
