Some 110 doctors who were posted to deprived communities have accepted their postings. This was disclosed by the Minister for Health, Kweku Agyemang Manu.
He made the revelation in Parliament, where he noted that this forms part of efforts to deliver quality health to rural folks in the various regions across the country.
The Minister was responding to some urgent questions on measures his outfit is taking to ensure that doctors accept postings to deprived areas of the country.
It is an open secret that doctors and other health personnel do not want to serve deprived communities due to the lack of social amenities and other facilities and good living conditions.
To avert this trend, Mr Kweku Agyemang Manu indicated that the ministry has run a survey, out of which many recommendations have been made to include financial incentives for doctors who accept postings in deprived areas of the country.
He said this financial incentive will be based on the severe nature of the area of one’s posting.
