A 10-year-old hawker, known as Hawa, met a tragic end when a tipper truck, identified by its registration number GM 2312 – 21, struck her in Mankessim within the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
Reports indicate that Hawa was attempting to cross the Mankessim to Cape Coast Highway when the accident occurred.
Sadly, she lost her life in the early hours of Monday, May 6, 2024.
Hawa, who was selling mangoes at the time, was swiftly taken to the Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital in Mankessim.
Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival, and her body has been transferred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital mortuary.
In light of the incident, authorities have detained the truck driver to aid in the investigation.
Concerned residents are urging the Highway Authority to implement measures, such as installing speed ramps, to address the growing concerns over road safety in the area.
